The Berkshire Review

Welcome to the royal county of Berkshire.

We are based in the south of England, bordering Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Surrey, Wiltshire and Hampshire.

Well, officially the administrative county of Berkshire was abolished in 1998 and so the administration is divided by Bracknell Forest, Reading, Slough, West Berkshire, Windsor and Maidenhead and Wokingham unitary authorities. However, the people of Berkshire still recognise the county (the oldest in England) as the place where they live.

The highest point in the county is Walbury Hill  (974 ft),  which is found 4 miles southeast of Hungerford.

Fewer than a million people live in Berkshire, but it is a relatively affluent county with high levels of employment.  Slough is home to Europe’s largest trading estate and Reading is home to a good number of high profile information technology companies.  Reading University (founded in 1892) also has a strong reputation for IT.
